2026 Municipal Election

The Township of Armstrong will hold a municipal election on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Eligible voters will elect:

  • Mayor (1)
  • Councillors (4)
  • School Board Trustees (as applicable)

Nomination Period Opens: May 1, 2026

Nomination Deadline: August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.

Certification of Candidates: August 24, 2026

Advance Vote: October 17, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Voting Day: October 26, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Who Can Vote

You are eligible to vote in the Township of Armstrong municipal election if you are:

  • A Canadian citizen;
  • At least 18 years old;
  • A resident of Armstrong, or the owner or tenant of land in Armstrong (or the spouse of such person); and
  • Not prohibited from voting under any law

Voters’ List

The voters’ list for the 2026 municipal election is based on the Preliminary List of Electors provided by Elections Ontario.

Electors are encouraged to confirm or update their information using Register to Vote Ontario prior to August 2026.

Beginning August 12, 2026, electors will be directed to the Municipality for assistance with:

  • confirming voter information
  • updating voter information
  • adding their name to the voters’ list

The voters’ list is finalized by the Clerk and becomes the official Voters’ List on or before September 1, 2026.

Applications to add, remove, or update information on the Voters’ List may be made from September 1, 2026 up to the close of voting on October 26, 2026.

 


Voting Method

Voting will take place using traditional paper ballots.

Electors must attend the designated voting location and cast their ballot in person.

Voting Hours:

  • Advance Vote: October 17, 2026 (10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.)
  • Voting Day: October 26, 2026 (10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.)

Voting by Proxy

If you are unable to vote, you may appoint another eligible elector as your voting proxy.

  • Proxy appointments may begin after nominations are certified
  • Applications are available at the Municipal Office

Identification Requirements

Voters must provide acceptable identification showing their name and qualifying address.

Eligibility

To run for office on Council, you must be:

  • A Canadian citizen
  • At least 18 years old
  • A resident of Armstrong, or the owner or tenant of land in Armstrong (or the spouse of such person)
  • Not legally prohibited from voting
  • Not disqualified by any legislation

Filing a Nomination

Nominations must be filed with the Clerk:

  • In person or by an authorized agent
  • At the Municipal Office during regular office hours
  • Between May 1, 2026 and August 21, 2026 (2:00 p.m. deadline)

Candidates must submit:

  • Nomination Paper (Form 1)
  • Declaration of Qualifications
  • Filing fee:
    • $200 for Mayor
    • $100 for Councillor
  • Proof of identity and qualifying address

Original signatures are required. Electronic or fax submissions are not permitted.


Campaign Rules

Candidates are responsible for complying with:

  • Campaign finance rules
  • Contribution limits
  • Election signage requirements
  • Rules respecting the use of municipal resources

School board trustee elections are held at the same time as the municipal election. The Township of Armstrong works in partnership with surrounding municipalities to administer these elections.


Voting for School Board Trustees

Electors in the Township of Armstrong will vote for school board trustees as part of the municipal election.

  • Voting takes place at the Township of Armstrong voting location

Your eligibility to vote for a specific school board is based on your school support designation (English Public, English Separate, French Public, or French Separate).


School Board Trustee Candidates

Nominations for school board trustee positions must be filed with the designated Returning Officer for each school board and geographic area.

For candidates in the Township of Armstrong, the following applies:

Important – Filing Location

Candidates must file their nomination with the correct Returning Officer for the applicable school board.

Filing locations may differ from where you reside or vote. Candidates are responsible for confirming the correct filing location before submitting their nomination.


Language

For French-language school boards, election materials and services may be provided in both English and French, in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

Language
